The RAM in a computer is a volatile, but high speed memory that the processor uses as a scratch pad. The memory structures are different for different computer architectures. Even the IBM pc ram that we use have evolved through different types and the make that we used about 10 years ago isn’t usable now as the motherboard wont support it.
