Mac machines are of a different architecture than the IBM PC which is the most widely used pc type in the world. This means that the memory that you use for IBM can’t be used with mac. Mac memory is an entirely different thing and when you plan to buy more memory for your mac, you need to be specific and ask only for a memory that is compatible with mac and not with ibm pc.
